Cops Corner: East County

The following information was gathered from incident and arrest reports obtained from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

Sept. 18
Disapproval rating
 9:48 a.m. — 5000 block of University Parkway. Petit Theft. A credit card was canceled after the owner had been notified that someone was making unapproved transactions.

Sept. 20
Not an easy fix
 2:58 p.m.— 6000 block of 33rd Street E. Theft After Trust. An owner wrote a $350 check for the repair of his car, however, the check was cashed and no work had been done. When the victim went to back to the repair shop, he discovered that the man had fled the area and vanished. The victim has been searching for the repairman for two months with no luck.

Sept. 28
Happy ending
 8:50 p.m. — Unknown Address. Information Only. A child was reportedly standing on the side of a road all day. When police went to check on the boy, he told them that he was dropped off that morning to catch the bus. According to the boy, he was reading a book when the bus came and he missed it. He told police he didn’t want to walk home for fear of getting into trouble with his mother, so he decided to wait for his mom to pick him up at 4:15 p.m. The boy had a packed lunch and appeared to be unharmed, although he did have sunburn. Authorities contacted the boy’s mother, who picked him up immediately.

Oct. 1
Foot patrol
 4:37 p.m. — 4000 block of University Parkway. Lost Property. While on patrol, one authority pilot had his knee on the kneeboard instrument panel, and the instrument fell off the panel and out of the helicopter. They immediately turned around to search for it, however, they were unable to find it. Once they returned to the hangar, they searched on foot. They were unable to locate it.

OCT. 2
Sticky Fingers
 10:05 a.m. — 8000 block of Lockwood Ridge Rd. Petit Theft/Shoplifting. A woman tried to walk out of a store with several bags of candy in her purse. Security approached her and escorted her back inside the store where the authorities were contacted. The bags of candy were given back to the business and the woman was brought to the central jail. The incident was video taped and has been turned in.

Go fish
 4:40 p.m. —2000 block of 53rd Ave. E. Petit Theft. Police were notified when a man walked out of a store without paying for fishing poles. The man had paid for smaller items, however. The man stole nearly $300 worth of fishing rods. The property was returned to the store in new condition.

Oct. 3
Cut and run
 5:55 p.m. — 1000 block of Lemon Fish Drive. Burglary. Someone walked onto an open construction site and cut wires from their fixed position. The person then fled from the site by unknown means in an unknown direction.

Circle theory
 8 p.m. — 400 block of Cyrpress Creek Boulevard. Property Damage. Someone broke into a gated property by breaking the automatic gate, causing about $800 worth of damage. Once on the property, the complainant told police it looked like the person had done donuts with a vehicle on the grounds.

Oct. 5
Rude awakening
 7:04 a.m. — 6000 block of 45th Terrace E. Criminal Mischief. A man awoke to the sound of eggs hitting his windows. He called police after he saw that his car and house had been egged and one of the tires of his car had been punctured.

Fast one
 7:50 p.m. —5000 block of 33rd Street E. Forge/ Counterfeit Bank Bill. At the drive-thru window of a fast-food restaurant, a man paid for his meal with a counterfeit $20 bill and then drove away.
