Rosie O’Donnell has a new view — the Casey Key beachfront.
The 51-year-old television personality and comedian closed on a 4,647-square-foot Casey Key beachfront home Thursday.
O’Donnell purchased the home, which was remodeled in 2009 for $5 million. The previous owners, William and Donna Brian of Berkley, Mich., bought the home in 2005 for $4.6 million and were represented in the sale by Thomas Hedge Jr. and Monica Barth of The Hedge Team at Premier Sotheby’s International Realty. Jill Friedman and Kevin Vale of Coldwell Banker Residential Real Estate represented O’Donnell in the sale.
According to Hedge, the couple own another property on Casey Key as well as in Michigan and wanted to downsize.
Hedge said that O’Donnell’s agents contacted The Hedge Team, indicating that O’Donnell was interested in purchasing a home on Casey Key.
“My partner, Monica, and I thought Rosie was very nice to work with,” Hedge said. “Right from the first moment we met her she was very low-key.”
O’Donnell’s new Key West-style beachfront home has large French doors that open to views of the beach. It also features such as amenities as French oak floors, custom carpentry and state-of-the-art appliances such as a professional Wolf range and double oven, Sub-Zero refrigerator, two built-in Sub-Zero wine coolers with 150-bottle capacity, a built-in Miele coffee station and two Miele dish washers.
The home also includes a 36-foot-long covered boat slip less than a mile away at the Casey Key Marina and Yacht Club, Hedge said.
“It’s more of a vacation home for her,” Hedge said. According to a Wall Street Journal report, O’Donnell recently sold a house on Miami Beach’s Star Island for $16.5 million.
O’Donnell has hosted several television shows, including "The Rosie O’Donnell Show, The View, and the Rosie Show, which the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) canceled in March 2012 due to low ratings.
This was the largest sale to date for The Hedge team, and according to Hedge, the Casey Key real estate market is on the uptick.
“There's still some hesitation to offer full price,” Hedge said. “But sellers are definitely more encouraged to put their houses on the market.”
The Hedge Team will be closing on a 6-acre vacant lot on Casey Key, listed for $2.9 million, this November.
“It's pretty overwhelming, but the buyers made it feel like just another ordinary transaction,” Hedge said of the O'Donnell sale.
