Arts: "Theo Wujcik: New Paintings" and "Human Tide"

Ybor City-based contemporary artist Theo Wujcik is an acclaimed painter and printmaker. He created an entirely new body of work specifically for this solo show in Galleries I and II at Selby Gallery. View his website here

Dance:  Sarasota Ballet's "Theatre of Dreams"

For the first time since this popular annual performance’s inception, Theater of Dreams will open Sarasota Ballet's season — it typically comes at the end. The company members choreograph a wide variety of pieces for this program. Veteran Theatre of Dreams choreographers Kate Honea, Logan Learned and Jamie Carter contributed pieces along with new choreographers Kelly Yankle, Alex Harrison and David Tlaiye. 

 

When: 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25; 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26; 2 and 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27. 

Where: FSU Center for the Performing Arts, 5555 N. Tamiami Trail.

Music: Florida Blue Blues and Music Festival

An annual blues festival isn't new news for Sarasota, but when the staple Sarasota Blues Festival decided to have a bye for 2013, in stepped the Florida Blue Blues and Music Festival to continue the tradition. This year's highlights include Rick Estrin and the Nightcats, Samantha Fish and The Kenny Wayne Shepard Band.

 

When: Noon to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26.
Where: Sarasota fairgrounds, 3000 Ringling Blvd.

Cost: $27 in advance; $32 at the gate

Theater: Manatee Players' "Young Frankenstein" 

Manatee Players presents the musical parody on classic horror films just in time for the spooky holiday season. This will be the first full weekend of performances and is a not-to-miss adaption of Frankenstein.

 

When: 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25; 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26 and 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27. Runs through Nov. 10.
Where: Manatee Players, 502 3rd Ave. W. Bradenton.
