+ ODA swimmers open season with victories
The Out-of-Door Academy boys swim team opened the season with victories over Canterbury and Keswick Christian Aug. 27.

The Thunder defeated Canterbury 100-67 and Keswick Christian 115-46.

Across the pool, the ODA girls swim team defeated Keswick Christian 106-85 and fell to Canterbury 164-69.

Junior Joie Eckhard and senior Joseph Plechy both set new school records in the 100-yard butterfly.

+ Sarasota Christian cruise to victory
The Sarasota Christian volleyball team defeated Port Charlotte Community School 25-15, 25-8, 25-10 Sept. 3.

Andrea Wittmer powered the Lady Blazers with six kills, three aces and one block. Kelsey Murphy added nine kills.

Sarasota Christian returns to action Sept. 5 versus Southeast.

+ Liberty Edge League registration under way
Registration for the Liberty Edge Youth Basketball League at the Frank G. Berlin Sr. YMCA Branch in Sarasota is now under way.

Former NBA player Marcus Liberty runs the league, which is open to players ages 6 to 17.

The deadline to register is Sept. 9. Coaches’ and parents’ informational meetings will be held Sept. 11 with the six-week season scheduled to begin the week of Sept. 16.

Cost is $60 for YMCA members and $95 for non-members.

+ Manasota LAX to hold free clinics
The Manasota Lacrosse Club will hold free lacrosse instruction clinics every Sunday, beginning Sept. 8.

The clinics, which are open to boys and girls of all ages, will be held from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Premier Sports Campus in Lakewood Ranch.
