+ Patterson scores two TDs in win
Senior running back Demardre Patterson rushed for 116 yards and two touchdowns to lead Cardinal Mooney to a 28-0 victory over Avon Park in non-district action Sept. 20.

Sean Morris recovered a fumble and returned it 51 yards for a touchdown. Morris also caught a 50-yard touchdown.

Patterson scored on runs of 2 and 17 yards.

Quarterback Reese Vita completed seven of 14 passes for 109 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, Alex Sobczak had two interceptions and Morris had an interception, as the Cougars (3-0) forced six turnovers.

+ Mustangs boys golf finishes second
The Lakewood Ranch High boys golf team shot a combined 595 to finish second at the Honda Classic High School Invitational Sept. 20 and 21.

The Mustangs, who suffered their first loss since 2011, finished six shots behind American Heritage Plantation in the 18-team field.

Ramsey Touchberry shot a combined 141 to finish as the individual runner-up. Luke Miller shot 145 to finish fifth.

+ ODA volleyball tops St. Stephen’s
The Out-of-Door Academy volleyball team defeated St. Stephen’s 25-12, 19-25, 25-22, 25-22 Sept. 17.
With the win, the Lady Thunder improves to 6-1 (3-1).

Natalie Buffett and Lauren Maxey combined for 27 kills to power ODA. Reanna Gregory added seven kills and three blocks, while Samantha Emmons had five kills. Cameron Graham contributed 28 perfect passes, 17 digs and four aces.

+ ODA names new baseball coach
The Out-of-Door Academy recently named Tim Orlosky as associate athletic director for facilities management and its new varsity baseball coach.

Orlosky played for Venice High before moving on to Daytona State College, where he was named a 1st Team All-Region in 2003; he helped Daytona State capture its first conference championship that same year.

Orlosky went on to play at the University of South Florida, where he batted .327 with seven home runs, as the Bulls’ leadoff hitter.

Upon graduation, Orlosky returned to Daytona State where he served as the Falcons’ hitting and outfield coach as well as the head coach of the developmental team.

Most recently, Orlosky served as the assistant athletic director and assistant varsity baseball coach at Windermere Preparatory School in Orlando.

Orlosky will oversee the maintenance of ODA’s athletic infrastructure, as well as preparing venues for all home competitions.

+ ODA Football

The Out-of-Door Academy football team notched its first win of the season with a 42-0 victory over Citrus Park Christian Sept. 20.
Quarterback David Grain, who returned from a sprained ankle, accounted for three touchdowns, including a 15-yard touchdown run.

Wide receiver Jeremy Herrin caught touchdown passes of 30 and 12 yards.

Running back Jason Fineberg scored a 30-yard touchdown, and Chris Poole added a 69-yard score.
Joey Runge also recovered a fumble and ran it in for a touchdown.

19 minutes, 12.9 seconds — The time Casagrande crossed the finish line in to set a new season best at the North Port XC Invitational Sept. 21.

2 — The number of first-place finishes Casagrande has recorded in three meets this season.

13 — The place Casagrande finished at last year’s Class 1A FHSAA Cross Country State Finals.
