Rode mode

Bert Bleven, 90, rode his bike 962 miles from his home in Louisville, Ky., to his second home at Whispering Sands on Siesta Key. His wife, Eve, flew to Sarasota from Kentucky and greeted him on his arrival Sept. 20.

It took Bleven 22 days to make the cross-country trip. His son, Dr. Kim Levins, rode about 450 miles with him, and his daughter, Beth Blandford, finished the rest of the ride with Bleven. They rode between 40 and 45 miles a day. Bleven promised himself years ago that he would make a trip like this every 10 years. The last trip was a decade ago.
