Lakewood Ranch Track and Field
The Lakewood Ranch High boys and girls track teams cruised to victory at the Manatee County Varsity Championships April 3, at IMG Academy.

The Lakewood girls scored 246 points to finish well ahead of Manatee (101). Braden River placed fourth with 64 points.

On the boys side, the Mustangs scored 190 points to finish ahead of Manatee (129). Braden River placed fourth with 73 points.

+ ODA breezes to district win
The Out-of-Door Academy girls lacrosse team defeated Cardinal Mooney 15-7 in district action April 1.

Kimmy Comito scored six goals and added three assists to lead the way for the Lady Thunder. Taylor Albano added four goals and an assist. Lexi Myers had two goals and two assists. Adelaide Mahler had two goals and one assist. Abby Lagasse had one goal and two assists. Tess Siciliano had one goal. And Lexi Murphy and Sierra Dickerson both were credited with an assist.

+ Junior Golf tees off for winter series
The Greater Sarasota Junior Golf Association held its third of five Winter Tournament Series events April 5, at Peridia Golf & Country Club.

Ten-year-old Matthew de Heus was the event medalist with a 4-under-par 56.

+ River Dawgs will hold golf tournament
The 10U Manatee River Dawgs Golf Tournament will be held at 11 a.m. April 26, at Serenoa Golf Course, 6773 Serenoa Drive, Sarasota.

Cost is $100 per player or $400 per team. Registration includes 18 holes of golf, golf cart, lunch, drinks on the course, dinner and prizes.

+ Pop Warner adds new divisions
Beginning this fall, Manatee County Pop Warner teams will no longer have midget divisions in their football programs.

Midget teams were previously for players ages 12 to 14 and 105 to 170 pounds; or 15 and 105 to 140 pounds. This year, the new unlimited division will be for players, ages 11 to 14 and 105 pounds or more.

5 - The district singles title LaBolt won at the Class 3A-District 10 tournament April 1 and April 2, at Treasure Island Golf and Tennis Club.

6-4, 6-1 - The score LaBolt posted to beat Venice’s Laura Dempsey and capture the area’s lone championship.

10 - The number of points LaBolt helped the Braden River girls tennis team score to finish fourth overall at the Class 3A-District 10 tournament.
