Sherry Janes has always been a people person, and she made it her mission to bring people together with the Sarasota Singles Society.

The Sarasota Singles Society offers members the opportunity to meet other singles in fun and diverse social settings.

Janes, who is originally from Winter Park, started the club in November after a friend mentioned how life-changing her singles society in Chicago was.

Since then, Janes has been working on offering at least four events per month, including themed parties.

Although Janes has worked in many different fields — she was a flight attendant supervisor for five years in New York, a retail business owner for 20 years in Orlando and a real estate developer for 20 years in North Carolina — there is a common thread: She enjoys working with people.

“I enjoy doing things that benefit others,” she says.

Although there have been some couples who met through the club, Janes doesn’t consider herself Cupid.

She says she just wants to help people connect.

“I allow people to attend something where they can be themselves,” she says.

Janes says what drives her are her members who, like herself, just want to meet people and enjoy themselves.

“It’s sort of become my mission,” Janes says.
