The Sarasota School Board Tuesday will discuss filling the vacancy left by former board member Carol Todd, who resigned earlier this month.

Todd, who had served on the board for 16 years, unexpectedly resigned April 2, citing obligations to her family.

Gov. Rick Scott will appoint her replacement based on applications from interested candidates.

The School Board will discuss filling Todd’s seat at its monthly work session Tuesday, prior to the official board meeting.

Also on Tuesday’s agenda will be a discussion on how to regulate e-cigarettes in district schools as well as construction contract amendments that could save the district more than $300,000.

The board will also review a series of new staff positions, which are available due to area voters’ approval last month of a supplementary 1-mill tax tagged for the district.
