The Masters is known as one of the most prestigious golf tournaments in the world. The flowers, the trees, the perfectly manicured grass, the pimento-cheese sandwiches, the absence of posts on social networks for four days (no cell phones or cameras allowed), the exclusivity … it’s an event in its own league.

As the event passed us by last weekend, it provided ample inspiration for elegant viewing parties.

When it comes to throwing the perfect party for viewing an event such as the Masters, outdoors is the way to go (as long as there’s a TV or projection screen for viewing). If you can’t be on the grounds of Augusta National, you might as well be outside watching, right?

From large yards and patios on the golf course, to a side yard large enough for a catering crew, to a tropical oasis designed for entertaining, we present some of the most party-appropriate backyards in Sarasota to accommodate the perfect outdoor viewing party for whatever sport you support.

If golf is your sport of choice to watch, a backyard with a view of a course is the best backdrop. This London Bay Homes model home in The Founders Club with views of the 13th hole is the ideal party place for such an event. With pillar-less, pocket, sliding-glass doors, the entire back of the home opens up to the patio — providing full views of the course and full views of the TVs inside. The outdoor kitchen offers a great place for grilling, while also offering a large area of space for a food buffet.

The Meshad home
The backyard of Gavin and Jenny Meshad’s home was made for entertaining. After grabbing a drink from the bar in the basement, guests can head out to the patio where there are many areas to socialize. With two grilling areas (one can be used as a buffet), a sandy beach area complete with a boat bar, multiple areas with seating and lounging and a gazebo with hammock chairs and TV, guests can enjoy listening to and viewing their sport in a relaxed beach setting.

The Webb home
Dick and Lee Ann Webb’s property in Gator Creek is the ideal spot for a social gathering — large enough for catering crews, multiple tables, seating areas and a fire pit. All that’s needed for the perfect watch party is a projection screen for viewing the event.
