The following information was gathered from incident and arrest reports obtained from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

July 21
 VESTED INTEREST

5:01 p.m. — 2900 block of 53rd Avenue E. Petit/Grand Theft-Shoplifting. The suspect was inside the store. While inside, he selected a weight vest from the shelf and concealed it down the front of his pants. He then exited the store without paying for the vest. Store loss prevention monitored his activity on surveillance video. Loss-prevention staff stopped him as soon as he exited the store.

July 29 
 Open-AND-SHUT case

7:56 a.m. — 300 block of Petrel Trail. Open Door/Window. A man reported the garage door of the residence remained open overnight. The deputy found the home to be vacant. It was clean and empty of contents, including appliances. The deputy discovered the A/C unit inside the garage was leaking and causing damage to the wall. He secured the home and tried to contact the owner.

July 31
 MISSING MEDS

12:30 p.m. — 7700 block of Lake Vista Court. Lost Property. A man reported his medication as lost. He said he had set it down in a box on his kitchen counter. He later threw the box down his trash chute and did not realize until afterward that it was in there. He wanted to report it as lost because his doctor said he needed a report number so he could purchase replacement medication.

WHAT A NIGHTMARE 
4:05 p.m. — 8900 block of Manor Loop. Information. A woman said she woke up in the middle of the night and heard an unknown male’s voice say, “I was just in there. She’s sleeping, bro. The meds are in the bathroom. The dog is in a trance and won’t fit in the trunk.” She called 911 and deputies responded to the residence. She stated she had previously changed the locks.

KNOCK OUT
11:55 — 5200 block of 33rd Street E. Burglary Unoccupied Structure Unarmed. An unknown male entered the location by kicking out the front door. He stole property and exited through the front door.

Aug. 1
 LOST CALL

7:58 a.m. — 5300 block of Lockwood Ridge Road. Petit Theft. A woman placed her mobile phone and her wallet on the counter while she waited for her turn in line. Another customer was checking out, and it was taking a little longer than normal. When another register opened, the woman walked away and left her phone on the counter. When the victim was finished with her transaction, she walked back to her vehicle and realized she’d left her phone behind. When she returned to the store, it was not where she had left it.
