What do Sarasota, Napa Valley and a nudist resort in Edinburg, Texas, have in common?

The Huffington Post’s Huff/Post50 listed the three locations among six of the “best American cities for growing old and happy,” in a Monday article. Huffington Post staff had asked readers the question through Facebook, rather than rely a data-driven analysis as the Milken Institute did for a July 2012 study, in which Sarasota was ranked 47 of 100 large metropolitan areas suited for successful aging.

Huff/Post50 ranked Sarasota fourth in the nation, citing its status as one of the demographically oldest large county in the country as one reason for its inclusion in the list, which also includes Sequim, Wash., Denver, Colo. and San Diego, Calif.

Earlier this year, Christie’s International Real Estate released a report naming Sarasota one of the most popular small communities for wealthy homebuyers, and news aggregator BuzzFeed featured Sarasota as the No. 1 “place in the U.S. you need to visit right now,” in 2013.
