A small plane crashed on Siesta Key today.

The Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport received a mayday call and alerted the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff’s Office reported to the crash site, near the 7900 block of Sanderling Road on Siesta Key, according to a press release.

The pilot, Earle F. Swan, 75, of Bradenton, and his passenger, Martin S. Thomas, 51, of Cape Coral were reported to have minor injuries, but are out of the plane.

The plane is a replica World War II biplane, according to Swan. He landed on the beach after he experienced engine problems, the release said.

This crash comes just two weeks after a plane crash on Casperson Beach that killed two people.
