Spotlight On: Koko FitClub

Lakewood Ranch family physician Josette Grice was tired of giving her usual diet and exercise recommendations to patients who battled weight problems.

To Grice and her husband, Doug, who are both fitness enthusiasts with a lifelong passion for healthy living, “big box gyms” don’t give clients the help they need to successfully lose weight.

In mid-September, the couple will open the first Koko FitClub franchise in East County, located at 2531 Lakewood Ranch Blvd. The Massachusetts-based gym uses technology, such as a thumb drive — or a Koko Key — to customize exercise plans based on the client’s goal.

Monthly membership is about $100.
