Haile Middle administrators accept the challenge

Sharon Scarbrough doesn't back down from ice-cold water, or challenges.

The Haile Middle School principal, along with Assistant Principals Bob Sloman and Kate Collis, completed the ALS Association's Ice Bucket Challenge Aug. 20. School employees dumped ice water-filled coolers over each of the administrators.

"Let's do this," Scarbrough said to the crowd of students who watched nearby.

The children fell silent but wore smiles as the trio gasped and shivered after the water covered their bodies.

Lakewood Ranch High School Principal Craig Little nominated Scarbrough and her team to complete the challenge. Scarbrough announced she nominated principals from Witt, Freedom and Bashaw elementary schools — Jim Mennes, Dave Marshall and Josh Bennett.

To date, the Ice Bucket Challenge has raised more than $25 million.

Aug. 21, Scarbrough talked with students about the ALS Association and the disease Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). ALS is a progressive disease that affects the nerve cells in the brain and spinal chord.
