AUG. 16
TRASH LEAP
10 p.m. — 1200 block of North Palm Avenue. Criminal Mischief. A parking attendant reported an unknown person damaged a fiberglass trash can at a parking garage. The trash can was located on the fifth floor of the garage and thrown down into the alley below. The trash can is valued at $300. Officers were unable to review security footage, because the video surveillance at the garage had not been working for the past week.

AUG. 20
MAKING A MESS
6:11 p.m. — 2100 block of Fifth Street. Dispute/Fight. A woman discovered someone left dog feces in her yard and mailbox. She suspected her neighbor did it, because the neighbor owns two pit bulls, and the woman has found waste in her yard from those dogs before. The woman said it has been an ongoing issue with that neighbor. Officers spoke with the neighbor, who said she did not put feces in the yard. Other neighbors in the area also denied responsibility. Officers asked the neighbor to put her dogs on a leash when walking them, and she agreed not to enter the woman’s yard.

AUG. 21
PUSH COMES TO SHOVE
5:13 p.m. — 1500 block of First Street. Dispute/Fight. A man reported another unknown male pushed him from behind. The man then said he knew the male but did not want to give his name. Ultimately, the man advised he did not want to press charges.

RUN AND HIT
5:59 p.m. — 1800 block of South Tamiami Trail. Motor Vehicle Theft. A woman went inside a convenience store for a few minutes and left the keys to her car on the floorboard. When she came outside, she saw the car was headed eastbound on the adjacent road. She could not see who was driving the vehicle. The car was later found having crashed into a tree. No witnesses around the crash site were able to provide details about a potential suspect.

THROWN FOR A LOOP
9:01 p.m. — 900 block of John Ringling Boulevard. Criminal Mischief. A woman was walking along a pier with her ex-boyfriend. The woman said that as they were walking back to the car he “freaked out” and threw her smartphone, wallet and the keys to her car toward the water. An officer helped the woman locate her phone, the battery of which was missing and the back of which was broken. Officers were unable to locate the man.
