The holiday season is a time to give thanks and now there is a day just to give with Giving Tuesday.

Dec. 2 is a global day dedicated just to giving back for Giving Tuesday. The day is intended to serve as the equivalent to Black Friday and Cyber Monday for community foundations, nonprofits and research organizations. But the transactions can vary from giving time to monetary donations to the charity of your choice.

More than a dozen local nonprofit and community organizations have decided to participate in Sarasota. One organization taking part is the Sarasota Audubon Society by posting artwork by young explorers on the Audubon Facebook page to demonstrate the thousands of local children who participate in the free nature programs offered.

“By featuring the insights and observations of our young participants through their art and writing, we hope the community will be inspired to join the campaign and help us purchase educational, display and other materials we need for our young people and programs,” said Jeanne Dubi, president of the local Audubon in a release.
