On Dec. 3, a groundbreaking ceremony celebrated the start of construction at Infinity of Longboat Key.

The new condominium will have 11 units in a five-story building with 3,380 to 5,456 square feet. Prices range from $2,975,000 to $4.95 million, and five units have sold. Nine units will have three to four bedrooms and three-and-a-half to four-and-a-half bathrooms, and there will be two penthouse suites, which will have five bedrooms and five-and-a-half bathrooms.

Development of the 2.5-acre location has been underway since 2005, when a project called Bleu Claire was slated for the site. That project had a Mediterranean design instead of Infinity’s coastal contemporary style. The property is the former home of the Holiday Beach Resort, which was demolished last year.

Development talks began again nearly two years ago, and the condos are expected to be completed in 12 to 14 months.

“What we have learned is there’s a real interest in privacy and a big size similar to a private residence,” said developer Randy Moore, of Crossgate Partners LLC. “(Buyers) also want to get away from the headache of maintenance. This gives them both.”

Condo amenities will include a beachside pool and spa, tennis courts, a clubhouse and fitness center.

Each residence will have sliding 12- to 16-foot sliding glass doors and glass balconies, which will provide views of both the Gulf of Mexico and Sarasota Bay. Units will have private elevator access and two- to three-car garages.

Carrie Riley, of Riley Interior Design, is heading the interior planning and design, and Michael Saunders & Co. is the real estate broker. The project will be built by Tandem Construction and developed by Crossgate Partners LLC. Mark Sultana, of DSDG Inc., is the architect.

“We have Longboat sand in our shoes, and we care desperately of what’s built here,” said Michael Saunders, founder and CEO of Michael Saunders & Co. “Infinity is the quality of being infinite. I believe this will become the standard of all others. “This is what people want.”
