Ranch grappler undefeated
Lakewood Ranch sophomore Hunter Reed went 8-0 with eight pins to win the 113-pound weight class at two-day Gary Freis Duals Dec. 5 and Dec. 6, at Fort Myers High. 

The Mustangs finished with a 5-3 record in their first tournament of the season, defeating North Fort Myers 45-25, Ida Baker 53-27, Fort Myers 60-18, Dunbar 46-31 and Estero 43-23.

+ BRSC to hold holiday camp
The Braden River Soccer Club will host a Goalkeeping & Striker Holiday Camp 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Dec. 20 through Dec. 23, at the Braden River Soccer Club fields located behind Lakewood Ranch High.

The camp will focus on a variety of skills, including finishing, attacking, defending and goalkeeper tactics.

BRSC Club Director of Coaching Gjoko Tasevski will run the camp along with special guest trainer Peter Ward, a 16-year professional and former member of England’s national team.

The camp is open to all players, ages U10 and up, at a cost of $120 per player.

+ LAC announces Open event
Longwood Athletic Club will hold its Men’s Open event Dec. 19 through Dec. 22.

Some of the top-ranked professional and collegiate players will be competing in this year’s Best Deals Book Open tournament, which begins at 6 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.

+ Goal propels Thunder to win
Francisco Marcano-Santos scored in the final minutes of regulation to propel The Out-of-Door Academy boys soccer team to a 4-3 victory over Sarasota in non-district action Dec. 3.

Trailing 2-0 early in the first half, Tyler Wenger and Jimmy Kuebler both scored a goal to tie the game 2-2 at halftime.

Agustin Gualtieri scored his first goal of the season five minutes into the first half, giving the Thunder its first lead of the game. Mark Sulimirski had a pair of assists, and Kuebler also had an assist.

Players will compete in both singles and doubles tournaments for the chance to win $75 to $1,250.
