It’s all in the details — that’s what many would say when it comes to adding character to a home. For some, tile is merely another choice one must make at the local home-improvement store, but, for others, tile is used as a focal point for design.
The attention to detail in Stanley and Mary Williams’ home on Bay Point Drive is indisputable, and the tile work provides the perfect example. Prior to building their home in 2008, the couple spent a lot of time researching what they wanted to add in regard to detail.
“Details really make the home— without it, all you’ve got are walls and floors,” says Mary Williams.
“This house is a prime example of how each individual tile really becomes a gem to the house,” says interior designer Brigid Saah. Saah, who owns Tile Market of Sarasota, was brought in to work on the tile design for the home with Ana Santa Maria, of Voigt Building and Design at the time, now with Apex-Studio Santa Maria. Santa Maria completed the interior design for the project and the entire home. “They really make such an impact, those little details,” Saah said.
The tile, along with other intricate details, gives the home and, specifically, each room, personality. Individually laid mosaic tiles were incorporated throughout the entire home. Though each room has its own personality, the mosaic tiles create a sense of continuity for the home.
“I have always loved mosaics and really wanted that movement and the light that they bring in the house,” says Mary Williams.
This story has been updated to clarify that Ana Santa Maria was the interior designer of the project and the home.
