+ Friendly welcome to Longboat Key
Dear Editor:
On the evening of Friday, Jan. 10, my wife and I arrived on Longboat Key for the first time to visit friends from Pennsylvania, who spend their winters in the community of Spanish Main Yacht Club.

We had driven 575 miles from Florence, S.C. It was dark, and we were lost and late. We stopped in a service station just north of St. Armands Circle to ask directions and met Longboat Key Police Officer John Thomas.
Thomas not only directed us, but he also escorted us to our friends’ home eight miles to the north. What a warm and congenial welcome to a couple of weary travelers.

I wanted you to know of this sincere act of kindness.
William Detterer
Wyomissing, PA
