County releases 2013 annual report

Sarasota County announced Friday the release of its 2013 Annual Report, which provides a comprehensive summary of the county's activities and accomplishments last year.

"This report documents the county's dedication to service and accountability during 2013, and demonstrates the value that citizens are receiving for their taxpayer dollars," said Thomas A. Harmer, Sarasota County administrator, in a statement.

In 2013, the county focused most of its goals and activities in six key areas: Community preservation and enhancement; growth planning; mobility; water and environmental resources; economic development; and health, safety and welfare.

The 52-page report, which is available online, also provides detailed data on the county’s finances and services, breaking down the county budget into its various components and quantifying the scope of county work, including such responsibilities as roadway maintenance, public transportation and parks and recreation services.

The report touts such as accomplishments, such as the county’s millage rate, which is the third lowest in the state, the county’s selection as the venue for the 2017 World Rowing Championships, and the county’s 2013 AAA debt rating by Fitch Ratings.
