Dec. 17
Car wash confusion
12:40 p.m. — 400 block of GMD. Rescue. Gas station employees had trouble communicating with a 75-year-old man but eventually figured out he wanted a car wash. The man appeared confused and had trouble putting his car in park when employees went to help him. Police learned the man is being treated for dementia and completed a report for medical review. The man’s son drove him home.

Dec. 18
Go fish
6:46 p.m. — 700 block of Penfield St. Suspicious Circumstance. A woman saw a man driving a car without its lights on near unoccupied residences. The man told her he is a commercial fisherman who lives on the Key and was looking for mullet splashes. The woman didn’t believe him and wrote down his license plate number. Police traced the vehicle to a nearby home. They did not receive an answer at the door.

Dec. 19
Iowanna go home
9:41 p.m. — 3700 block of GMD. Disturbance. A man pointed out a woman on a bicycle to police and said she had gotten into an argument with her family. The woman told police she doesn’t like it here and wants to go back to Iowa. Her brother, who was spending the night at her home, said the argument was about her refusal to take her medication. The woman told police she doesn’t like the medication and it’s not the same kind she took in Iowa.

Open-door policy
10:37 p.m. — 500 block of Bay Isles Road. Security Check. Police found the door of Longboat Key Town Hall unlocked during a security check.

Dec. 26
Do the twist
11:55 a.m. — 2100 block of GMD. Welfare Check. A woman was twisting side-to-side while walking, then lay down on a bench. Police asked to speak to her and attempted to ask her if she needed medical help, but she said she didn’t want to continue the conversation and said she was going to the library and a drug store.

Dec. 27
Probation problems
5:43 p.m. — 500 block of Ranger Lane. Assist Other Agency. A probation officer asked police to arrest a man for violating his probation terms that prohibit him from being drunk. Police had checked on the man earlier that day, after his roommate said he had been drinking alcohol for six days straight and hadn’t been out of his room during that period. The man said he had a cold and had had a drink earlier that day and the day before. Police returned and arrested him.

Dec. 28
Board meeting
4:35 p.m. — 500 block of Bay Isles Road. Code Enforcement. A town employee called police about three men who were attempting to skateboard at Town Hall. The men had cameras set up in preparation for videoing their stunts. They left after police verbally warned them.

Dec. 31
Capture the flags
9:55 a.m. — 6700 block of GMD. Larceny. A property manager reported that two U.S. flags were stolen from the condominium. Police were unable to find any witnesses or evidence.
