“Philadelphia, Here I Come!” opened this week at Asolo Repertory Theatre. This production follows Gareth O’Donnell as he decides to leave his hometown of Ballybag. It’s a closed-minded small town in Northern Irreland where his uncommunicative father, job as a grocer and failed love life have pushed him over the edge — he’s had it. In the tragicomedy, he leaves to pursue new opportunities in Philadelphia where his Aunt lives.

He’ll bring his best friend, rather his imaginary friend or conscience, along for the journey.

“Philadelphia, Here I Come.”

Where: Asolo Repertory Theater, 5555 N. Tamiami Trail
Cost: Tickets are $21 to $76.
