Permit problems
2:53 p.m. — 300 block of North Shore Road. Soliciting. A man and woman who were selling magazines door to door left the area after police told them about the town’s solicitation ordinance, which requires a permit to go door to door.
Jan. 8
Sidewalk stumble
6 p.m. — 5800 block of GMD. Rescue. A man was walking on the sidewalk and fell after his foot struck a raised portion of the sidewalk. He suffered a cut above his right eye and minor cuts and bruises to his hands. The man received treatment from firefighter/paramedics and said his wife would take him to an emergency room.

Striking discovery
3:09 p.m. — 400 block of GMD. Property Damage. A property manager requested a report about damage to a newly installed concrete column in the condominium. Police determined a vehicle strike possibly caused the damage.
Jan. 10
Speed dating
12:09 a.m. — 4600 block of GMD. Traffic. After police pulled him over, a man admitted he was speeding to show off for a female passenger. He had been drinking earlier and agreed to leave his vehicle in the right of way until the next morning.
Where’s the fire?
3:25 p.m. — Intersection of Broadway and Poinsetta Avenue. Fire. A small fire at the bottom of an electric pole had already gone out by the time police arrived on the scene. Firefighters stayed until power company officials arrived.
You’re pulling our chain
4:38 p.m. — 6400 block of GMD. Public Service. An unknown person broke a plastic chain that hangs across a church stairway and left what are possibly marks from inline skates on the entryway.
Let’s call it a night
10:34 p.m. — 5500 block of GMD. Public Service. Police escorted an intoxicated woman back to her residence after a restaurant manager asked for help.

Smoke and mirrors
6:34 a.m. — Sister Keys. Fire. Police responded with firefighters to a report of a possible fire on Sister Keys. They did not locate a fire.
Jan. 13
Doggonit, let him inside
5:36 p.m. — 500 block of Ranger Lane. Dog. A dog was tied up and barking outside a home; a neighbor called police. A woman said her roommate had put the dog outside, but she brought it inside because it was barking. The woman agreed to keep the dog inside when she is not home.
Jan. 14
It’s past closing time
3:22 a.m. — 100 block of Broadway. Parking. Police approached a man and woman who said they were getting ready to walk on the beach and did not know the beach was closed. Police noticed an open bottle of alcohol behind the driver’s seat, but neither the man nor the woman appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. They placed the bottle in the trunk and left.
