Those weren’t sleigh bells ringing you heard if you ventured into the Longboat Key Publix in December. It was the sound of volunteer bell ringers who manned the Salvation Army kettle as part of the charity’s holiday fundraiser.

Once again, bell ringing proved lucrative on Longboat Key: The kettle brought in $8,462. The Kiwanis Club of Longboat Key, which organizes the annual effort, thanks everyone who donated and volunteered.
