+ ODA Boys Middle School Soccer
The Out-of-Door Academy middle school boys soccer team finished its season with a perfect 12-0 record, outscoring its opponents 36-5.

Over the course of the season, the Thunder took 100 more shots than all of its opponents combined; every player on the team saw action in all but one match.

Championship players include: Max Hajduk, Edward Hamburger, Sean Morris, Matteo Romano, Wylder Meyer, Jake Flake, Alvaro Juncosa, Viraj Patel, Banks Paxton, Hunter Coakley, Gus Mahler, Tucker Harris, Zach Szmania, Colin Castro, Daniel Schuetz, Tommy Hubbard, Ryan Ives, Filip Svoboda, Phillip Cecil, Dakota Dickerson, Chase Bannar, Tomas Giacinti, Skye Ehrhart, Thomas Naylor, Adam Sholi and Jack Towsley.

+ Registration underway for seniors
Registration for the 25th annual Gulf Coast Senior Games is now open and continues through Jan. 31.
The games will take place Feb. 18 to Feb. 23, at various venues throughout Manatee and Sarasota counties.

The games are designed to promote and maintain health and wellness to local residents ages 50 and up.
Events offered at this year’s Senior Games include archery, bowling, cycling, horseshoes, swimming and track and field, among others.

To become a Gulf Coast Senior Games competitor, register online at mymanatee.org/parks or fill out a registration form. Registration booklets are available at any Sarasota County recreation center or library.

The entry fee is $12 and includes an event T-shirt. There’s an additional fee of $3 per event, to compete. Some events may also have an additional facility fee.

The Gulf Coast Senior Games is a local qualifier for the 2014 Florida Senior Games State Championships, to be held Dec. 6 to Dec. 14 in Lee County.

+ River Dawgs receive recognition
The 10U River Dawgs travel baseball team finished the fall season by winning the Toys for Tots tournament last month in Oldsmar. The team won three games the final day of competition, including beating two top-rated teams, to capture the championship.
With the win, the River Dawgs finished the season as one of the top teams in Florida; USSSA now ranks them 26th in the nation.
The River Dawgs returned to action in the Disney New Year’s Baseball Classic, during which they faced teams from Illinois, Ohio, Virginia, North Carolina and West Virginia.

+ St. Stephen’s to hold Game Changers Gala
St. Stephen’s Episcopal School will hold its second annual Game Changers event Jan. 25, at the Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club.

The event is open to the public at a cost of $100 per person. VIP tickets cost $175. A VIP reception will be held at 6 p.m., followed by a general reception at 6:30 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m.

The keynote address and live auction will be held at 8 p.m. Auction items include a chance to throw out the first pitch at a Chicago Cubs game and locker room passes to a Tampa Bay Lightning game, among others.

This year’s keynote speaker will be Herman Boone, whose story was captured in the film “Remember the Titans.”
