Philanthropist Elaine Keating just started the push toward the fundraising finish of the Sarasota Museum of Art campaign. Keating, a founding member of SMOA, pledged $1 million to match any new contributions.

As of yesterday, $17,353,173.86 of the $22 million needed was raised, a figure which SMOA President Wendy Surkis rattles off the top of her head. Of the $22 million, $14 million will go toward a renovation and $8 toward an endowment. Surkis hopes Keating’s generous pledge will inspire other community members to come forward so they can close the fundraising and begin the renovations as soon as possible.

SMOA’s ARTmuse installation will be on display through April 19. Watch this video to learn a little more.
