8:02 a.m. — 600 block of Dream Island Road. Larceny. A man reported that three rod-and-reel combinations were taken from his boat but could not provide any further information about the stolen items. He last saw the rod and reels on his boat a day-and-a-half earlier.
into thin air
9:20 a.m. — 4300 block of GMD. Larceny. A man left a dehumidifier at the bottom of his steps for three minutes while he retrieved his car. When he returned, it was missing. He saw a white SUV leaving the area at the time but did not have any further details.
Where did the time go?
5:06 p.m. — 600 block of Marbury Lane. Noise. Police received a complaint about construction work at 5:06 p.m. — six minutes after the town’s 5 p.m. work deadline. The construction supervisor was removing materials from the site when police arrived. He said he lost track of time and was leaving the site.

You Really Missed me
11 a.m. — 100 block of Sands Point Road. Assist Other Agency. Family members mistakenly reported a woman missing after they could not contact her for a few days. The woman lost her cellphone while she was in Orlando. Police verified the woman’s identity and contacted the Orange County Sheriff’s Department to have her name removed from missing persons databases.
Where are you registered?
2:07 p.m. — 2600 block of Harbourside Drive. Assist Other Agency. Police and Sarasota County Sheriff’s deputies searched for a registered sex offender in the Sarasota area whose address is still listed on Harbourside Drive. Florida law requires sex offenders to update their addresses within 48 hours of moving.
Unexpected house guest
9:30 p.m. — 500 block of Juan Anasco Drive. Suspicious Circumstance. A man found his front door open when he got home from work but thought he had locked it before leaving. His friends own the home and might have allowed someone else into the home who forgot to lock the door, he said. Police found no signs of forced entry.

The heater is on
6:06 a.m. — 3500 block of Fair Oaks Lane. Fire. A man returned to his home after going out of town for a month and smelled smoke when he turned his water heater back on. He turned off the water heater again and the fire extinguished itself. Firefighters determined the home was safe.
This isn’t a drive-thru
10:01 a.m. — 500 block of Yawl Lane. Trespassing. A man complained that a pool company is doing work at a nearby home and is driving on his property, destroying the yard. A company representative said the firm would put new sod in the yard and stay off the property. The town’s building inspector will also check on the situation to make sure there ar not further problems at the construction site.

Catching the drift
7:25 a.m. — 6500 block of Bayou Hammock Road. Found Property. Police recovered a buoy that had drifted into the mangroves in Bishops Bayou.
Jan. 19
Make like a tree and leave
1:19 p.m. — 5800 block of GMD. Noise. A man was using a leaf blower on a Sunday,a violation of town ordinance. The man spoke little English, so police spoke to his supervisor, who said the employee was new to the company and it was the first Sunday he had worked.

Back to the doghouse
10:59 a.m. — 4600 block of GMD. Dog on the Beach. Police responded to a report of a dog on the beach near a hotel. The dog’s owners, who did not have it on a leash, did not know that pets are not allowed on the beach or off their leashes. Hotel personnel said they tell all new guests that pets must be kept on a leash and cannot go on the beach.

Colony crimes
8:51 a.m. — 1600 block of GMD. Vandalism. Unknown individuals kicked the door open at a Colony Beach & Tennis Resort unit and broke all the glassware, phones and furniture inside, and they also made holes in the walls and doors. Police processed a fire extinguisher found nearby for fingerprints.
Road rage
12:29 p.m. — 500 block of Bay Isles Parkway. Civil Disturbance. A driver nearly struck a pedestrian in a crosswalk. The pedestrian became angry and struck the vehicle with his hand and exchanged profanities with the driver. The pedestrian said the driver continued screaming while inching closer to him. The driver’s parents told police their son takes medication for bipolar disorder and is blind in one eye and possibly did not see the pedestrian. The pedestrian said he did not want to make a formal complaint but asked police to speak to the driver.
Do not disturb
12:33 p.m. — 1500 block of GMD. Suspicious Vehicle. A man reported that two people parked a truck in a condominium parking lot had trespassed at the shuttered Colony Beach & Tennis Resort. A condo resident told police that he saw two men run to the condo from the Colony. He yelled at them to stop, but they got in their vehicle and drove away. The Colony’s manager said he would check the property and report back to police if anything was disturbed.
