The Sarasota Police Department will offer another virtual ride-along Friday, when the agency hosts its third “Tweet from the Beat” event.
Throughout the night Sarasota Police officers will share their experiences on the beat with area residents through texts, videos and photos transmitted through twitter, and coordinated through the department’s Partnership Policing Communications Coordinator.
Area residents tracking the event on twitter will be able to ask questions and interact with night shift officers.
The event is set for Friday, Jan. 31, from 6:30 p.m. to 3 a.m. To participate, residents can log on to twitter and follow the Sarasota Police Department through its handle: @SarasotaPD.
Residents without a twitter account, can access the social media site at www.twitter.com and create a free login.
The Sarasota Police Department’s "Tweet from the Beat" program is part of a national initiative to foster interaction between police departments and the communities within which they operate.
“This event is a great opportunity for our local and virtual community to communicate and interact with our officers in the city we protect and serve,” said Capt. Pat Robinson, Bureau of Patrol Operations, Sarasota Police Department.
