Obituary: Vera Lucille Offutt Smith

Vera Lucille Offutt Smith, of Sarasota, died June 26.

Born into a large family in 1916 in Independence, Mo., Mrs. Smith met and married her husband, Lloyd, in Kansas City, Mo., in 1940. His job moved them to Minneapolis, where they raised their family.

Upon retirement, Mrs. Smith and her husband moved to Sarasota.

Mrs. Smith and her husband were active in the U.S. Power Squadron and St. Armands Key Lutheran Church. She also indulged her love of reading as a longtime volunteer at the Longboat Library.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd, last year.

She is survived by her three children, Sherry, Randy and Carol; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
