June 27
WASH YOUR MOUTH OUT

11 a.m. — 500 block of North Jefferson Avenue. Civil Problem. After the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office completed an eviction of tenants in a rental property, the property owner called police to make a report of damage to the property. Two closet doors, a bedroom door and the security gate handle had been damaged, and the apartment had been left filthy. There was also a vulgar word spray-painted on the inside door of the dishwasher. Officers advised the matter was a civil issue that needed to be taken up in court.

TURNDOWN SERVICE
Noon — 5000 block of North Tamiami Trail. Dispute/Fight. The manager and a tenant at a motel were involved in a dispute about a room. The manager said he had a tenant whom he wanted off the property for being rude to staff. The tenant said all she wanted was to get a new room because the one she was staying in had bedbugs. The tenant decided to leave on her own after an officer explained management would not rent her a room.

HAVE IT YOUR WAY
7:30 p.m. — 3500 block of Fruitville Road. Dispute/Fight. A man approached the counter of a fast-food restaurant and demanded food for free. When the manager asked the man to leave because he was causing a disturbance, the man became irate. After a brief rant by the man, he left the scene without further incident.

June 29
SMASH, DON’T GRAB

7 p.m. — 2300 block of Wood Street. Criminal Mischief. A man said that, sometime during the night, someone smashed the back sliding window on his car. The man said nothing in the vehicle was missing, so he wasn’t sure what had occurred. He was unable to locate a blunt object that may have done the damage. The officer noted the sliding window was too small for someone to fit through, and the door was still locked.

CLEAN GETAWAY

12:41 p.m. — 3500 North Tamiami Trail. Petit Theft — Shoplifting. A man took frozen chicken, deodorant, shaving gel, hair conditioner and body wash from a convenience store. After concealing the items in his backpack and walking past all points of sale, an officer stopped the man and placed him in custody. The manager said he had video of the crime and would be able to provide it to the police.

CLEANING HOUSE
5:25 p.m. — 1100 block of Highland Street. Boyfriend/Girlfriend/Family (living together or not). A man complained his brother was cleaning their house tile using a garden hose and that the water was getting inside of his bedroom. The brother said his cat had urinated all over the house and that he was just cleaning the tile. The brother said he would try to prevent the water from entering the bedroom.
