Last year for FCAT assessment test in Florida schools

The Florida Department of Education will be updating the current school grading system to match the assessments set to replace the FCAT.

The current assessment test, Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT), has been implemented in the school system since 1998. It is being replaced with a “more rigorous” Florida Standards and Florida Standards Assessment test, according to a press release from Sarasota County Schools.

The department just released the results of FCAT scores for the past school year.

According to a press release from Sarasota County Schools, the county received an overall A grade for school performance and is one of 10 counties in Florida to receive the highest score.

Overall, 23 schools in the county received A’s.

Some schools improved in this school year while others dropped down a letter. For example: Gulf Gate Elementary rose from a B to an A, and charter school Sarasota Suncoast Academy fell from an A to a B.
