Summertime is here again, the heat is kicking, and more and more often, I find myself pulling my hair back to get it off my neck or just out of the way in general. After about the third braid of the week, though, I start itching for a change. Luckily, 2014 has ushered in the rebirth of hair accessories, just in time to save us from boring summer hair.

Flower crowns have always been a staple of music festivals worldwide, and they've recently overflowed, not only into the fashion world, but also into this hippie, bohemian street style that I so adore. This would also be the point where my severe nerd tendencies comes in handy, because I tend to walk away from any medieval faire with more flower crowns than one ever should. I mean, like tons ...

If you tend to steer clear of the “hippie” label, try opting for something less bold. Subtlety and daintiness were key to Honor’s spring 2014 runway hairstyles, where less was definitely more — pretty low ponies and dreamy, iridescent flowers carefully sprinkled along the sides or woven into big, beautiful fishtail braids.

If you like to keep things simple and classic, then you’re in luck. Alexis Mabille’s re-envisioning of the retro, thick blue headbands is one of this summer’s biggest trends. Keep this top-knot look simple with a nude gloss and mascara, or finish off a gorgeous bouffant hairstyle with a sexy cat eye and a bold lip.
