Sarasota Memorial Hospital has selected a new CEO from within the organization.

The Sarasota County Public Hospital Board named former Sarasota Memorial Chief Operating Officer David Verinder as CEO in a unanimous vote Friday. Verinder has served as interim CEO since the departure of Gwen MacKenzie in May.

“It was clear from the outset that (Verinder) has been instrumental in Sarasota Memorial's outstanding performance over the years and has the leadership, experience and vision to continue the organization's successful track record amid the challenges ahead," said Hospital Board Chairwoman Marguerite Malone in a news release.

Verinder, 47, joined Sarasota Memorial Hospital as chief operating officer in 2006, after which he helped steer the organization out of financial difficulties.

“I’m honored the Hospital Board has placed its trust in me,” Verinder said in the release.
