May 28
Clothing conundrum
6:41 p.m. — 8300 block of Lockwood Ridge Road. Theft. A loss prevention officer at a discount store observed a woman grabbing several items of clothing. She then walked into the housewares department to stuff the clothing into her purse. She was caught and escorted to the Manatee County Jail for attempting to steal $38.73 worth of clothing.
May 30
Car left wide open
3:24 p.m. — 3800 block of State Road 64 East. Burglary. While a man went to retrieve gas for his car, someone stole prescription medicine, a laptop and jewelry from the front seat of the unlocked vehicle that also had all of the windows open. Police said the owner of the vehicle appeared to be impaired or under the influence of an unknown substance.
Son found having fun
11:08 p.m. — 4900 block of Breakwater Drive. Suspicious Circumstance. A woman became worried when her son failed to come home before sunset. Police found him at a friend’s house playing video games with his friends.
May 31
Family matters
1:56 p.m. — 14800 block of Sundial Place. Battery. A man’s stepdaughter arrived fresh out of a rehab center with her boyfriend to retrieve her car. When the man let the air out of two of his stepdaughter’s tires to prevent her from taking the car, the boyfriend approached the stepfather and they began to argue. The argument led to the stepfather punching the boyfriend in the face. The boyfriend didn’t wish to press charges and the couple agreed to pick up the car another day once an insurance issue was corrected.
Tag trouble
2:02 p.m. — 600 block of 67th Street Circle East. Theft. A woman reported that someone stole the license plate off the back of her car while it was parked in a parking lot.
Car contents stolen
4:58 p.m. — 8000 block of Stone Harbour Loop. Vehicle Burglary. Someone broke out the right rear passenger window to gain access to a woman’s locked car and stole her purse, complete with a wallet, cash and credit cards.
Burglary averted
10:55 p.m. — 8300 block of Grosvenor Court. Attempted Burglary. A man attempted to break into a home in the middle of the night by throwing a rock through the double-paned glass door to the master bedroom. The man was scared away before entering the home and fled on foot.
Craziness calmed down
11:33 p.m. — 5000 block of 33rd Street East. Domestic Disturbance. A couple told police her daughter was acting crazy. The daughter’s boyfriend came over to visit and the husband got into a fight with the boyfriend and he left. The boyfriend’s departure caused the daughter, who is five months pregnant, to pack a bag and threaten to leave. When police arrived the daughter was resting on the couch. Domestic packets were issued to the family.
June 2
Drug disturbance
11:50 p.m. — 3000 block of 54th Drive East. Suspicious Circumstance. A man called to report that his wife left the house just before midnight, explaining that she “needed to get drugs or else.” He was concerned for her well being because of substance issues in the past. A search for the wife was unsuccessful.
