+ i9 Sports fall registration open
Registration for the 2014 fall i9 Sports Manatee/Sarasota season is now underway.
The season begins Sept. 27 and runs through Nov. 15. The league is open to boys and girls ages 4 and up. Fall sports include: flag football, soccer, basketball, T-ball and cheerleading.

+ Mustangs third in all sports standings
Lakewood Ranch High finished third in Class 7A in the Florida High School Athletic Association Floyd E. Lay Sunshine Cup all-sports awards.
The Mustangs scored a combined 113 points to finish behind champion St. Thomas Aquinas (251.50) and runner-up Oviedo (135).
The Lakewood girls scored 58.50 points while the boys added 54.50 points. Points are awarded to a school based on its finish in FHSAA State Series competition in each sport. Schools also receive bonus points for winning district and regional championships.
+ Marauders chosen for All-Star game
Bradenton Marauders outfielder Josh Bell and left-handed pitcher Orlando Castro both were chosen as 2014 Florida State League Mid-Season All-Stars.
The two will compete for the South Division All-Stars in the 2014 Florida State League All-Star game June 14, at McKechnie Field, in Bradenton. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:05 p.m.
Both players will be making their second All-Star team appearances after having been named All-Stars last season, as well. Bell is batting .308 so far this season with 20 extra base hits, 34 RBIs and 21 runs scored. Castro is 3-3 with a 2.77 ERA in 11 appearances this season, having struck out 45 batters in 61 2/3 innings.
+ Pirates to hold summer workouts
Braden River High will hold a workout program for all incoming freshman interested in playing football for the Pirates this summer.
The seven-week program, which began June 10, will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays. There will be no workouts June 27 through July 6 and Aug. 1 through Aug. 3.
The program is a combination of running and weightlifting that is designed to increase strength, conditioning and football knowledge while allowing incoming players the opportunity to meet current players as well as the coaching staff.

+ Florida Burn 2016 Pennant Team
The Florida Burn 2016 Pennant Team went 7-0 to win the 2014 16U WWBA East Memorial Day Classic May 23 through May 26, in Fort Myers.
The Burn outscored its opponents 32-3 during four pool play games. The team then went on to beat the Scorpions 2016 Prime 2-0 in the quarterfinals. The Burn came from behind to beat South Florida Storm Blue 3-2 in eight innings on a walk-off double.
In the championship game, the Burn defeated Elite Squad 16U Prime 3-2 on a walk-off suicide squeeze bunt to win the 16U championship.
Braden River pitcher Eric Kimsey earned a pair of wins for the Burn, while Braden River’s Tyler Dyson went 7-for-15 with five RBIs to lead the way at the plate. Kimsey and Dyson also both made the all-tournament team.
ODA’s Parke Phillips came on in the top of the seventh inning to earn the win for the Burn in the championship game.
