'Corpse Plants' to bloom at Selby Gardens

This week, the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens' "Corpse Plant" Seymour and "kid sister Audrey" will bloom for the first time in 15 years.

The two are Amorphophallus titaniums, the world’s largest unbranched flower clusters, and come from Sumatra, Indonesia.

Although Selby members of staff are excited, some visitors may hope that the pair won’t stay for very long. This could be because the "Corpse Plant" emits an odor that holds true to its name— in addition to its rather odd shape, the flower itself smells like decaying flesh.

Visitors wont have to suffer for long, considering that this rare plant will only bloom for four or five days.

Selby staff members believe Seymour and Audrey will bloom Thursday, June 19.
