Students in the Manatee County School District know their math.

Students in fourth-, fifth-, seventh- and eighth-grades exceeded the state averages in math on FCAT 2.0, according to a Florida Dept. of Education press release.

As a whole, students in select grade levels surpassed last year's county averages in math, and are continuing to close the gap with state scoring averages in four of the seven assessments given in FCAT 2.0, said Steve Valley, spokesperson for the School District.

Below is a breakdown of each grade level's math proficiency percentage compared to the state average:

Grade level: Manatee County: State:

4 65 63

5 57 55

7 57 56

8 54 47

The district also exceeded state averages in fourth-grade reading.
