Manatee County Commissioners approved new bus fares and plans to add routes and modify existing bus routes at their meeting June 17.

Effective Oct. 6, Manatee County Area Transit (MCAT) riders can expect the following fare changes: basic fees will increase from $1.25 to $1.50; day passes for unlimited rides will increase from $3 to $4; weekly pass prices will drop from $15 to $12; monthly riding passes will increase from $30 to $40; and veterans and active military members will receive a 50% discount on fare prices.

Bus routes will also be extended in East County, along with other county roadways.

On State Road 70, MCAT proposed a new east-west link between Lakewood Ranch Boulevard to the beaches on Anna Maria Island, according to Manatee County Government's website.
