+ Sarasota Little League announces all-stars
Sarasota Little League recently announced its 11/12 and 50/70 All-Star teams.

The teams will begin District 16 tournament play June 28.

This year’s all-stars include:

American 11/12: Charles Alario, Joshua Capo, Jackson Carney, Beau Eisen, John Eriksen, Logan Fraser, James Hazlett, Micah Jodhan, Ty Kilgo, Cade Nelson, Jacob Schemmel, Christopher Sherman and John Soloman.

National 11/12: Grant Calvin, Gabriel Copeland, Evan Gibbs, Lucas Imbruno, Sean Kathman, Peyton Leach, Kendall Ligon, Karson Ligon, Samuel Miller, Jett Mullett, Stephen Picard, Caleb Poll and Anthony Schiavo.

50/70: Manuel Aguilar, Chris Andrews, Nick Andrews, Logan Brown, Mattie Zeeff, Michale Hampton, Maximus Jolly, Zac Krieger, Diego Prestamo, Quay Provencher, Jack Retzke and Dustin Salter.

+ Sarasota to receive Special Olympics grant
The USTA Florida Section Foundation granted Special Olympics Florida $2,900 for Special Olympics athletes at six Florida sites, including Sarasota.

The grants will be used toward the purchase of modified tennis equipment.

In February, USTA Florida and the USTA Florida Section Foundation announced a partnership agreement with Special Olympics Florida to provide more tennis play opportunities to athletes in Florida.

+ Local players named to all-state team
Four Sarasota area players were named to the Florida Athletic Coaches Association 2014 Baseball All-State Team.

Sarasota High’s Dylan Busby, Brandon Chapman and Evan Mendoza, who all closed out their high school careers this spring, were chosen for Class 7A.

Riverview High’s Justin Cohen, who played his final season with the Rams this spring, was the lone Sarasota area player chosen for Class 8A.

+ Sarasota Scullers finish 12th at nationals
Sarasota Scullers rowers Christopher Cail and Jeevesh Konuru finished 12th in the men’s lightweight 2x at the USRowing Youth National Championships June 13 through June 15, in California.

Cail, a freshman at Pine View, and Konuru, a sophomore at Pine View, were the youngest competitors in their race class.
