The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office assisted in the removal of an alligator from Richardson Road near the intersection of Cattlemen Road at roughly 1:30 a.m. Monday.

Deputy Blake Luce helped secure the eight-and-a-half-foot alligator, which was struck by a car, before a Florida-licensed trapper could remove the reptile, according to a post on the Sheriff's Office Facebook page.

Residents can report nuisance alligators to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission by calling 1-866-FWC-GATOR (392-4286)
