'A Night at the Rainbow Room'

If The Ritz-Carlton, Sarasota ballroom has ever been completely transformed, it was on Saturday, March 1, for Asolo Repertory Theatre’s annual gala , themed “A Night at the Rainbow Room.” Vases of long stemmed red roses, crystal chandeliers, gold table linens and an outstanding recreation of the New York City skyline as an LED projection background to the stage where Michael Andrew & The Atomic Big Band played, perfectly embodied the 1940s New York City hot spot. Michael Andrew & The Atomic Big Band was also a former Rainbow Room headliner.

More than 350 guests were dressed in the elegant fashions — snazzy suits and ties and dazzling gowns (glitter, fur and feathers was most popular for the women).

Following the dinner and live auction, guests danced the night away on the round dance floor (simulating the rotating dance floor of the real Rainbow Room) and many continued the party at Jack Dusty following the event.

The event, which benefits Asolo Rep’s entire 2013-2014 season and education and outreach programs, was co-chaired by Chris Cogan, Carol Phillips, Nikki Sedecca and Nikki Taylor.
