Sarasota County, in partnership with the nonprofit Society of St. Andrew, is looking for volunteers to help restock local food banks with fresh, locally grown oranges.

The mission is part of the “Gleaning America’s Fields,” which helps gather crops that would otherwise be left in the fields to rot. Sarasota County plans on donating the gathered crops to Sarasota food banks.

Volunteers are needed to help gather oranges to be donated.

"We are seeking volunteers of all ages to come out for a few hours on a Saturday and help us give back to the community,” said Brian Usher of Sarasota County Utilities.

The event takes place at 8 a.m. Saturday, March 15 at the Sarasota County Solid Waste Administration building, 4000 Knights Trail Road, Nokomis.

To volunteer, call Kate Lantz at (410) 212- 9825.

For more information, call the Sarasota County Call Center at 861-5000.
