+ Past is fair game in politics
Dear Editor:
The Democrats have stated that the Republicans should not use the past against Hillary if she is the candidate and then becomes the nominee in 2016.

Well, let me remind you, the Democrats found nothing wrong with bringing up George W. Bush’s membership in the Texas National Guard and a driving under the influence incident in Maine.  Also, they found nothing wrong with bringing up Gov. Mitt Romney’s past.

All is fair in politics.

+ Irwin Pastor is best choice for commissioner
Dear Editor:
I own a condominium on Longboat Key but live just over the bridge in the city. I cannot vote for the commissioners at-large because I am a Canadian but still follow what is happening in the town.

I like candidate for commissioner at-large Irwin Pastor’s platform because he cares immensely for Longboat Key and has the town’s interest at heart. Irwin is a retired business executive who owned and managed a large Pepsi-Cola bottling and distribution plant for years.

He knows everything about administering big business, which is much like running Longboat Key. He particularly knows fiscal efficiency and understands people and how to motivate them. He knows the town of Longboat Key and its citizens well. Pastor knows land development and how to use it for the greatest benefit to the town.

Most of all, Irwin knows how to be a wise leader without interfering with the town’s activities and its citizens.

If I could vote for a commissioner at-large on Longboat Key, it would be Irwin Pastor.
