Temple Beth Sholom Schools in Sarasota is appointing Dr. Wendy Katz as its interim director while it continues to search for a new head of school.

Katz is taking the place of Kavita Vasil, who has held the position for the past 20 years and is moving to Birmingham, Ala., for a new position closer to her family.

Vasil says she is confident in Katz’s ability to lead the school.

“Dr. Katz’s knowledge of our school, the region’s education system and our students makes her the perfect choice,” she says.

Katz has been working in the Sarasota County public school system for 38 years. She has served as a teacher, principal, mentor and administrator throughout the county.

Temple Beth Sholom Schools is currently conducting a national search for the next permanent director of schools. Katz, who says she is looking forward to her new position, will assume her role next school year.

“I look forward to working collaboratively with out talented team of teachers,” says Katz.
