+ River Dawgs go undefeated in tourney
The 13U Florida River Dawgs went 4-0 to win the Tampa Bay Classic NIT March 8 and March 9.
The River Dawgs opened pool play with a 2-0 victory against Florida Battalion and a 16-2 victory against 5TBA.
In the semifinals, the River Dawgs defeated Florida Battalion 4-3 to advance to the championship game, where they beat the South Florida Bandits 10-2.
“We put pressure on our opponents all day with quality at bats and an aggressive running game,” coach Scott Kolbe says. “We were solid from top to bottom, and our depth really helped us.”
The 10U River Dawgs also went 4-0 to win their respective division.
The team, which is now ranked No. 12 in the nation, defeated Florida Battalion 13-9 in the championship game.
+ ODA swings past Admiral Farragut
The Out-of-Door Academy boys tennis team defeated Admiral Farragut 7-0 March 11.
Vaughn Garcia (No. 1), Jose Juncosa (No. 2), Matt Jones (No. 3), Janum Trivedi (No. 4) and Jon Eichenbaum (No. 5) all earned singles victories for the Thunder. Garcia and Jones then teamed up for a victory in No. 1 doubles. Trivedi and Juncosa were victorious at No. 2 doubles.
+ Pencosky pitches complete game
Cole Pencosky pitched a complete game five-hitter to lead the Braden River High baseball team to a 4-1 victory against Manatee March 15.
Pencosky also went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI. Daren Ortiz scored two runs and had an RBI.
+ Mustangs notch district win
The Lakewood Ranch High baseball team defeated North Port 5-3 in Class 7A-District 10 action March 14.
Alex Gutowski allowed two runs in four innings to earn the win on the mound for the Mustangs. Andrew Giddens came on in relief and pitched two scoreless innings to earn the save for Lakewood.
Cameron Pearcey, Justin Greenaway and Matt Roberts each had two hits for the Mustangs. Tanner Fulks added two RBIs.
+ ODA baseball sweeps Mooney
The Out-of-Door Academy baseball team completed a regular-season sweep of rival Cardinal Mooney with a 5-2 victory in Class 3A-District 10 action March 15.
Austin Hoppe pitched a complete game, allowing three hits while striking out five.
Parke Phillips hit a double and scored a run in the first inning. Jake Romine added a two-run double in the fifth inning.
Cardinal Mooney pitcher Josh Bonynge struck out eight and walked two. Christian Maglich had an RBI single for the Cougars in the second inning.

The Braden River High softball team defeated rival Lakewood Ranch 4-1 in Class 7A-District 10 action March 11.
Sarah Crawford went 3-for-3 to lead the way for the Lady Pirates at the plate. Kinsey Goelz went 2-for-4 with a double. Kenya Yancy went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
Lexie Phelps pitched a complete game with one strikeout to earn the win for Braden River on the mound.
