The morning after a night out, as the daylight pierces through your blinds with the fury of a thousand suns, rudely awakening you at the unholy hour of noon, the age-old prescription for the waking hell you’re about to endure is a little hair of the dog.
A staple of this tried-and-true recovery method is the Bloody Mary. It’s a classic for a reason — it has enough vegetables and greenery to justify drinking so early in the day (What? They’re … healthy), and enough alcohol by volume to keep that hangover and pesky sense of reality at bay.
Sarasota has plenty of options to sate your cravings. Here’s our guide to a few of our favorites:
- Louie’s Modern — With a weekend brunch starting at 10 a.m., you no longer have to wait until Sunday to get your brunch on. Plus, Louie's has a bloody Mary cart, and they hand craft your liquid salvation right at the table.
- Mattisons City Grille — Mattison's has a great bloody Mary, and they open early on Saturday, at 9:30 a.m. and at 11 a.m. Sundays.
- Libby’s — Libby's Sunday brunch runs from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., leaving you plenty of time to roll out of bed and enjoy their famous bloody Mary bar. People are crazy about it. Their signature Manolo Mary features housemade mix, organic cucumber vodka and horseradish creme Fraiche.
- SKOB —For a bit of early-morning island drinking, try Siesta Key Oyster Bar. All of their food is great, and they serve up a great spicy bloody Mary. Plus, you can stumble your way over to the beach for a post-brunch nap.
- The Table — The Table is known for its great cocktails, and their bloody Mary is no different. Their Sunday brunch runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., so grab a drink and enjoy the view.
- Half Shell Seafood House — Now located on University Parkway, the new incarnation of the previously downtown seafood joint hosts brunch each Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. This restaurant does this drink justice, and for $4, it's hard to beat.
