Everyone faces each new day with a clean slate. But that slate gradually becomes cluttered with the writings of stress, anxiety, to-dos and life events. Self-care becomes a chore, but these eight simple tasks can help give even the busiest person's mind and body a sense of peace.

  1. Wake up with a positive affirmation — record it on a note pad or on your cell phone so that you can see it throughout the day.
  2. Choose to eat breakfast — it is the fuel for the body and the mind.
  3. Drink 12 ounces of water first thing in the morning — the body has been depleted through the night of its natural hydration.
  4. Listen to calming music — soothing the savage beast through moments of anxiety and road rage can help alleviate stress.
  5. Walk — avoid elevators and escalators; lear your head and gain some exercise simultaneously.
  6. Take stretch breaks — prolonged sitting is tough on the spine. Stretch out the legs, shoulders, back and neck.
  7. Turn off technology — give yourself permission to shut down 60 minutes before lights out. Decompress, read and breathe.
  8. Massage — a monthly massage of 60 minutes can flush toxins and wake up the muscles.

Everyday is a gift — how you unwrap it and cherish it is your choice.
