LECOM students stage car accident for 'Operation Prom'

In light of prom season, students of the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine's Emergency Medicine Club plan to show high school students the dangers of drunk driving.

LECOM students will take youth at Bayshore High School through a staged car accident scenario at 1 p.m., May 8, at the high school's Balvanz Stadium, 5401 34th St. West, Bradenton.

The annual "Operation Prom" event will demonstrate a sobriety test, removal of a passenger from the vehicle, and ambulance and Bayflite transport of injured passengers and individuals "killed" in the crash.

Emergency Medical Services, Manatee County Sheriff's Office East manatee Fire and Rescue and Bayflite will respond to the scene as if a real accident occurred.
